Our Firm

Casey & Chapman, PLLC, is a regional law firm focused on the delivery of high-quality legal representation at a reasonable cost. We are client-focused and innovative. The lawyers of the firm have over one hundred years of combined litigation experience in a variety of areas including health care, professional malpractice (medical, dental, legal), employment litigation, coverage litigation, will contests, oil and gas litigation, general litigation, and appellate work, among others. We provide boutique legal services in the areas of health care and employment. While we primarily focus our practice in the defense of parties in litigation, also we represent both corporate and individual clients as plaintiffs in select litigation. We enjoy assisting out-of-state counsel including serving as local counsel.

Our practice, centered in the charmingly historic city of Wheeling, West Virginia, and directly across from the federal courthouse, is strategically located in the Northern Panhandle along Interstate 70 between Ohio and Pennsylvania. Our offices are also easily accessible to all areas of West Virginia, including the capital city of Charleston. We are located only one hour from Pittsburgh International Airport and Downtown Pittsburgh and within a relatively short drive of Columbus, Cleveland and Cincinnati, Ohio; Charleston, Morgantown, and the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia; Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; and Washington, D.C. The firm is staffed by lawyers who live and work in West Virginia and remain current and are actively involved in legal and political developments throughout the State. Our lawyers are involved in community and service activities locally and statewide, as indicated in the Attorney Profiles.  

We are members of the West Virginia, Marshall County, Wetzel County, Wheeling, and Weirton Chambers of Commerce. We have attended and have been donors for the state chamber’s Annual Meeting and Business Summit.

Recognition

Our lawyers are recognized at the highest levels of the profession. The founding members are rated AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell, which is the highest peer review ranking available. In addition, Patrick S. Casey, our managing member, has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America since 2008 in the areas of Professional Malpractice Law, Health Care Law, Medical Malpractice Law, and Personal Injury Litigation. He is also "Lawyer of the Year" in the area of Medical Malpractice Law—Defendants for 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 in Northern West Virginia. Mr. Casey is included in the listing of Super Lawyers for West Virginia as well. The law firm has received designation since 2016 as among the "Best Law Firms" by U.S. News and World Report.

Our founders are Fellows of the American Bar Foundation, a global honorary society of lawyers, judges, law faculty, and legal scholars who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in the profession and service to society. Membership is limited to one percent of the lawyers admitted to practice in the United States and its territories and to a limited number of lawyers in international jurisdictions.

Patrick Casey and Sandra Chapman are also the first couple to receive the Lawyers & Leaders designation, a program that recognizes the accomplishments of lawyers who have made a positive impact on the state and the nation. Lawyers & Leaders inductees have dedicated their careers to service to others and their communities, and they embody the virtues of excellence, leadership, service and ethics.
